In this episode, we are honored to host Dr. Martin, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at UCR University Extension and the visionary Director of the Degree Completion program.

Dr. Martin will take us on a deep dive into the successful strategies implemented by the Extension Degree Completion Program over the past two years, shedding light on the program’s progress and the innovative approaches used to reengage UC stop-outs and California residents with some college and no degree attainment. Joining Dr. Martin is Miriam Fadel, a dedicated returning student at UC Riverside with a focus on institutional and educational public policy. Miriam is not only a passionate advocate for education, but also a trailblazer in entrepreneurship, running Cobra Capital LLC. She serves as the Dean’s Vice-Chief Ambassador and is actively involved in her R’WAY (Re-entry Without Any Yields) initiative, aiming to streamline UC readmissions. Miriam’s commitment to breaking down educational barriers aligns perfectly with the goals of the UC Degree Completion program.

Together, Dr. Martin and Miriam will share insights into the holistic, wrap-around support services and case management that have been pivotal in reengaging students. They will discuss overcoming institutional barriers through data collection, reporting, and qualitative storytelling, offering valuable lessons and best practices for the wider educational community.

Biography

Dr. Marie Martin is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at UC Riverside University Extension and the Director of Degree Completion program, one of four programs operating collaboratively through the University of California Reengagement Consortium. Marie is a UCR Highlander herself, having received her doctorate in higher education administration and policy from the UCR School of Education. She also holds a Masters in Public Administration from Cal State San Bernardino.

Miriam Fadel

Biography

Miriam Fadel is a dedicated returning student at UC Riverside, focusing institutional and educational public policy, with plans for a Master’s. She runs Cobra Capital LLC and serves as the Dean’s Vice-Chief Ambassador. She is also working on her R’WAY (Re-entry Without Any Yields) initiative to streamline UC readmissions, highlighting her commitment to removing educational barriers and supporting the UC Degree Completion program.
