Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy with Dr. Gholdy Muhammad

July 29, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Event Information: Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy with Dr. Gholdy Muhammad

Dr. Gholdy Muhammad presents a Historically Responsive Literacy Framework that’s essential for students, especially youth of color, who have traditionally been marginalized by learning standards, school policies, and classroom practices. The framework promotes four learning goals—or pursuits:

– Identity Development: Helping youth to make sense of themselves and others
– Skill Development: Developing proficiencies across the academic disciplines
– Intellectual Development: Gaining knowledge and learning to think deeply
– Criticality: Learning and developing the ability to read texts to understand power, equity, and anti-oppression

When these four learning pursuits are taught together through the Historically Responsive Literacy Framework, all students receive profound opportunities for personal, intellectual, and academic success.

Join Dr. Muhammad to learn how to apply the framework to remote learning with sample lessons that can be duplicated at home.
