The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and recent killings of Black individuals that have sparked protests nationwide highlight the numerous challenges faced by communities of color. The economic fallout from the pandemic will have grave consequences for public institutions of higher education, including community colleges that serve primarily Black, Latinx, and Native American students. Community colleges are planning for the fall semester amid these crises, but they may be disproportionately underfunded in the next federal stimulus bill.
Please join the Center for American Progress for an online event to hear from leaders of community colleges who are working to uphold equity in a crisis, outside of the higher education spotlight on residential universities. They will discuss their approaches to planning for the fall semester, their needs for public funding to meet this moment, and how they are wrestling with the national conversation on racism and police brutality.
