In the fourth episode of Education Chat’s fourth season, your host Natalie Hinton puts a focus on the Career and Technical Education programs being offered at select high schools in the Inland Empire. As an example throughout the episode, Natalie frequently refers to the 25 unique CTE programs apart of the Desert Sands Unified School District. She has a chance to chat with Kevin Bibo, the director of the CTE programs across the district. He gives us an insight on how these programs greatly benefit a student both within and outside of high school. Natalie also travels to Palm Desert High School to highlight the Aztec Arts Dance Academy CTE Program. She meets with Cristina McKeever, the director of CTE professional dance, to get a glimpse into what a day in the program as both an educator and a student looks like. High school seniors Victoria Thomas and Riley Hart share their first-hand experience as a student completing the program, and the episode is closed out by attending the final spring dance concert titled, “Elevate”.
Career & Technical Education, often shortened to CTE, is a strategy of education that combines academics, work-based learning, and integrated student support to prepare students for entry into college and careers. These programs allow high school students to acquire the necessary skills they need to enter the workforce or continue their education at a postsecondary level. Students who participate in these various programs have reported having greater confidence and career skills in their life. There is a large variety of programs for everyone, with medical care typically being the most popular among learners.
