Universal Design for Learning in Distance Learning for Early Childhood

Oral language development and disciplinary discourse are indispensable. Both factors lead to development of knowledge and growth in language proficiency. In this webinar, “Supporting Secondary English Learners in Science”, CDE draws upon recent recommendations regarding evidence-based instructional practices. Science teachers, for example, will learn about ideas and activities for developing English learner’s oral language. Importantly, they will help ESL students learn English by creating engaging environments in the learning and doing of science and engineering.

The following topics will be addressed in the Supporting Secondary English Learners in Science webinar:

• Introduction to oral language development and its importance for English Learners
• Asking questions and defining problems
• Analyzing and interpreting data, and
• Engaging in argument from evidence
