Improving Emergent Bilinguals Outcomes with Culturally Responsive Teaching

Emergent bilinguals, or English language learners (ELLs), currently represent 10 percent of all students in US public schools. By 2025, one in four students will be an emergent bilingual. How can educators help to ensure the success of this growing student population?

In this Improving Emergent Bilinguals Outcomes with Culturally Responsive Teaching webinar, attendees will: • Gain an overview of today’s emergent bilingual population—some of the statistics may surprise you • Learn about the asset model of education—why it’s necessary and how it supports bilingualism • Discuss the difference between multicultural and culturally responsive—an important distinction • Review six characteristics of culturally responsive teaching—from understanding accent varieties to incorporating education technology Educators will benefit from strategies that they can apply to their own culturally responsive classrooms. For those who can’t attend the live session, we’ll provide a recording.
