Where Does the Money Come From? Financing International Terrorism

What is the source of the money stolen or laundered by
terrorists used to run their organizations and militant operations? Since they are often moving, how do these terrorists keep their money safe and available?
If you said banks, you are correct.

Laws and financial regulations to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, have proliferated around the world.
This means that the financial sector of every major country
is not only engaged with banking regulators but with
intelligence agencies, and foreign policies of countries

in which they operate. How does it all work and why haven’t
governments been successful in stopping money from going
to criminals and terrorists?

Ian Oxnevad has spent almost a decade exploring the financing of global
terrorism.
His book, Making a Killing: States, Banks and Terrorist Financing,
McGill-Queens University Press will be available soon.
Dr. Oxnevad has a Ph.D. in Political Science/International Relations from
University of California Riverside and an MA
in National Security Studies,
Dual
Emphasis: Middle East Security, Terrorism from California
State University, San Bernardino. He is teaching at UC Irvine in the
2020-21 academic year.
