Costs beyond tuition are frequently absent when calculating and communicating college costs. Thus, students are often unaware of the additional indirect expenses they will encounter. For example, course materials, transportation, housing and food are essential for college success. Yet, students experience hardships from these costs when not calculated accurately or communicated effectively. Therefore, uAspire will report on key findings gathered from national data, financial aid experts and students’ lived experience.

uAspire’s Beyond the College Bill briefing is hosted by the Office of Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07). uAspire will provide a presentation on the report’s key findings and policy recommendations. Just as well, students will share their stories about navigating indirect expenses. Lastly, a roundtable of experts will discuss solutions to advance change.
