Award-Winning PBS Documentary The Class Comes to the Inland Empire for Special CSUSB Screening

Growing Inland Achievement and Three Frame Media invite students, educators, and the community to a special screening and conversation on October 27.
What does it take to help a student turn the dream of going to college into reality? For many young people, the answer includes determination, encouragement, and someone who helps them see a path forward.
Those experiences are at the center of The Class, an award-winning PBS documentary series coming to California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) for a special community screening on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Presented by Growing Inland Achievement (GIA) in partnership with Three Frame Media, the event will bring together students, faculty, staff, educators, and community members from across Riverside and San Bernardino counties for a screening of the series’ first episode, followed by a conversation with members of the cast, filmmakers, and regional education leaders.
The event is free and open to the community. Registration is requested.

Six Students. One Unforgettable Senior Year.
Executive produced by Tony- and Grammy-winning artist Daveed Diggs and created by filmmakers Jaye and Adam Fenderson, The Class follows six students at Deer Valley High School in Antioch, California, during the 2020-2021 school year.
As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts their final year of high school, the students confront uncertainty about college, their families, and their futures. Alongside them is college adviser Cameron Schmidt-Temple, known as Mr. Cam, whose commitment to his students demonstrates the difference that guidance, mentorship, and personal connection can make.
The series, which premiered on PBS in 2025, received a Silver Anthem Award in the Education, Art & Culture category.
A Conversation That Matters in the Inland Empire
For GIA, the documentary reflects an important regional priority: ensuring that every student has the support and opportunity to pursue education beyond high school.
Across the Inland Empire, students bring enormous talent and ambition to their educational journeys. Yet barriers to college access, affordability, and completion can make those journeys difficult to navigate.
GIA serves as the region’s coordinating intermediary for cradle-to-career educational attainment and economic mobility, connecting educational institutions, community organizations, employers, and government partners to improve student outcomes.
The organization’s regional strategy focuses on strengthening the milestones that help students succeed, from early learning and college readiness to postsecondary completion and careers that provide economic stability.
The Class brings a human perspective to this work. It reminds us that behind every college enrollment statistic is a young person making important decisions, often with the encouragement of educators, counselors, family members, and mentors.
The CSUSB screening offers an opportunity to hear these stories and consider how the Inland Empire can continue building stronger pathways for its students.
