SUMMARY:Helping Students Get TO College in an Unprecedented Time: A Workshop for High School Educators
DESCRIPTION:Today’s high school students face many unprecedented challenges as they look ahead to higher education and beyond. This important two-part virtual workshop series\, led by nationally recognized higher education expert Adam A. Smith\, will equip high school educators with the skills and knowledge to effectively coach students to gain admission to\, and prepare for\, college. Session 1 will cover the nuts and bolts\, uncovering the truth about test ACT/SAT “optional” and its potential impact on college success as well as demystifying the admission process. It will also cover real strategies to equip students to be successful in higher education from Smith and higher education student success experts. In Session 2\, current college students—from University of Alabama\, Metropolitan State University\, University of Tennessee\, Fisk University\, and University of Kentucky—will share their reflections on what they wish they had known in high school\, what they would have done differently\, and how their school counselors and teachers could have prepared them for the rigors of college academics and social challenges\, including virtual learning. \nSession 1: Real Talk: The Nuts and Bolts of College Admissions & Success\nJanuary 14\, 2021\n3:00 PM ET–4:00 PM ET \nSession 2: College Student Reflections: What They Wish They Knew in High School\nJanuary 21\, 2021\n3:00 PM ET–4:00 PM ET \nAbout Adam A.
