Statement from Growing Inland Achievement on Financial Aid Applications for Mixed-Status Families

We understand that applying for financial aid can raise questions and concerns, particularly for mixed-status families navigating the process. Eligible students and families have options, including filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA), to access vital state, federal, and institutional resources for the 2025–26 financial aid cycle.

We want to assure families that both the federal and state agencies involved in financial aid administration are committed to safeguarding student data. In California, the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) operates under robust privacy protection laws, including California SB 54 model policies, to ensure the confidentiality of CADAA applicants’ information.

Filing for financial aid is an important step toward achieving educational goals, but we also recognize it is a personal decision that each family must evaluate based on their unique circumstances. While there are strong safeguards in place to protect sensitive information, it’s important to acknowledge that no system is entirely without risk. Policies and practices may evolve over time, and there are factors outside of anyone’s control that could impact how information is used in the future. We respect families’ careful consideration of these complexities as they decide what is best for their futures.

GIA remains dedicated to supporting students and families by providing resources, guidance, and information to help them make informed decisions about financial aid. Our goal is to empower students to access opportunities that lead to academic and personal success.
