SUMMARY:TLC Kick-Off Week
DESCRIPTION:Other than health and safety issues\, the only thing we can be certain of is that we will have 4 basic needs that will directly affect our ability to provide a true\, right and just education to every student: \n• We will have less time with students than before\, so we need to know how to make every minute count.\n• We must to have the systems to help students who return at every level\, academically and socioemotionally.\n• We need to know the best ways to use technology as an accelerant.\n• We need a meaningful way to monitor progress to inform our practice. \nOrenda Education has designed research-based\, equity-grounded toolkits for each of these basic needs\, complete with systems\, strategies\, templates\, routines\, outlines\, planning guides and tip sheets—all built for differentiation. This is the TLC Model for Educational Equity and Economic Recovery. There are strands for:\n• Teachers\n• Counselors and other staff helping students with SEL and college/career guidance\n• Administrators\n• Paraprofessionals and other support staff \nExtensive training through the Orenda Academy accompanies the materials to give school staffs full confidence that you will meet the diverse academic and SEL needs of students\, no matter what the future brings.

SUMMARY:The Remote Research Enterprise\, Session 2
DESCRIPTION:In the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak\, universities have quickly shifted their classes online. But opening up research labs\, and ongoing scientific experiments to remote possibilities is a much harder task. \nIn the final installment of the two-part Remote Research Enterprise virtual forum series\, which explores how institutions are assessing and planning for research continuity given the pandemic’s uncertainty\, the focus will be on the near future. As colleges potentially reopen campus\, or at least parts of campus\, how do labs and research resources factor in? And how do key funding sources\, such as the National Science Foundation and other federal programs\, help or hurt that planning? \nRegister now for this virtual forum on Thursday\, July 16\, hosted by Francie Diep\, The Chronicle’s top writer on university research\, to join the discussion alongside top scientific experts and administrators to gain insight and advice on how to navigate these challenging times.

SUMMARY:College Enrollment and Access in the Age of Crisis
DESCRIPTION:After scrambling to bring in a new class of students during a pandemic and a recession\, colleges are now contemplating the longer-term implications for enrollment and access. They are simultaneously adjusting admissions requirements\, moving deadlines\, re-examining forecasts\, and budgeting for different scenarios\, while responding to the impact of all this disruption on both students’ and staff members’ daily lives. \nAs we look toward the fall\, many people responsible for enrollment are wondering:\n– What will signal success in this unpredictable environment?\n– For the next round of applicants\, what will it take to redefine outreach in virtual terms and tell the story of institutions in new ways?\n– What will it mean to provide meaningful access during the 2020-21 admissions cycle and beyond? \nIn this virtual discussion\, hosted by Chronicle senior writer Eric Hoover\, a panel of national experts will explore college enrollment and access in an age of disruption. The conversation will examine lessons from a tumultuous spring to help institutions navigate the challenges of virtual communication\, the complex student-aid picture\, and shifts in admissions criteria. \nSpeakers include:\n– Quinton Clay\, Director of Admissions\, Northern Illinois University\n– Tara Miller\, Director of the College & Career Center\, Stephen F. Austin High School\n– Andrew Palumbo\, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid\, Worcester Polytechnic Institute\n– Kasey Urquidez\, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Undergraduate Admissions\, University of Arizona

SUMMARY:Supporting Underserved Students in a Crisis
DESCRIPTION:During the Covid-19 pandemic\, it’s more important than ever for colleges to support their underserved students in the classroom and beyond. As Vimal Patel\, a Chronicle senior reporter\, has noted\, colleges have opened their doors to an increasing number of first-gen and low-income students. “The burden the pandemic is placing on those students\,” he reports\, “has exposed the staggering class divides that have always existed in higher education.” \nAs the world adapts to a virtual way of life and prepares for an uncertain future\, higher ed is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring learning for all students. However\, resources that were once relied upon by many students are now less available as the public-health crisis plays out. \nRegister now for this virtual forum on Thursday\, July 9\, as Vimal Patel and a panel of campus leaders discuss the disparities students face in the midst of social distancing and remote learning\, and what resources are available that colleges can use to support them. \nAttendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive live advice during this session. \nBy registering for this forum\, you agree to share the information below with The Chronicle and its event partners for marketing purposes. \nThis forum is underwritten by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
