SUMMARY:Course Hero Virtual Education Summit '20
DESCRIPTION:2020 has been a challenging year\, so this Education Summit has been reimagined to help us meet the moment. \nWe are moving online and providing complimentary access to general session programming across all three days of the event\, so everyone can come together to Regroup\, Reset\, and Reinvent in preparation for the remote/hybrid teaching demands ahead. We are convening university leaders\, instructors\, learners\, epidemiologists\, virologists\, social scientists\, political activists\, and more\, to unpack the uncertainty and possibility of our new normal—and explore actionable ways forward. \nThe event will include three days of research sharing\, presidential panel conversations\, campus reopening discussion forums\, online teaching demonstrations\, learning science workshops\, participatory breakout sessions for focused conversations\, social events for network building\, family programming (to keep the young learners entertained)\, yoga and wellness hours\, musical interludes by emerging student artists\, and even a DJ for some virtual movemaking. \nThis is more than just an event. It is a community in action. \nWill you join us? \nProgram schedule coming soon—register for updates.

SUMMARY:Webinar 1: Laying the Groundwork for FAFSA Completion
DESCRIPTION:FAFSA completion is one of the most critical tasks for students planning to pursue a postsecondary degree or credential. Facilitating FAFSA completion under the best of circumstances can be challenging; the pandemic has introduced even more hurdles. Now more than ever\, students need access to the financial resources they deserve so they can pursue a postsecondary degree or credential. FAFSA completion is an equity issue. \nIn response to this critical need\, NCAN is launching the FAFSA Completion Summer Institute Webinar Series. During these three webinars\, participants will learn strategies for starting or enhancing their comprehensive FAFSA completion efforts. Presenters from NCAN member programs that have successfully increased the FAFSA completion rates in their communities will share the strategies that helped them achieve their goals. After each webinar\, attendees will receive planning templates for use with local partners – the goal of the Institute is that each attendee will have the makings of a collaboratively developed plan for increasing FAFSA completion in their community. \nAlthough we encourage participants to attend all three webinars because of the logical sequence and planning opportunities built into the curriculum\, attendees may choose which webinar(s) are most relevant to their community’s needs.

SUMMARY:Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy with Dr. Gholdy Muhammad
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gholdy Muhammad presents a Historically Responsive Literacy Framework that’s essential for students\, especially youth of color\, who have traditionally been marginalized by learning standards\, school policies\, and classroom practices. The framework promotes four learning goals—or pursuits: \n– Identity Development: Helping youth to make sense of themselves and others\n– Skill Development: Developing proficiencies across the academic disciplines\n– Intellectual Development: Gaining knowledge and learning to think deeply\n– Criticality: Learning and developing the ability to read texts to understand power\, equity\, and anti-oppression \nWhen these four learning pursuits are taught together through the Historically Responsive Literacy Framework\, all students receive profound opportunities for personal\, intellectual\, and academic success. \nJoin Dr. Muhammad to learn how to apply the framework to remote learning with sample lessons that can be duplicated at home.
